Hawk GUI: Editing a Channel Configuration

Editing the Channel Configuration

From the main configuration page, a click on the “Channel Config” button, which brings the user to the channel configuration screen.

The purpose of the Channel Configuration screen is to allow the user to setup more detailed aspects of the configuration (the number of channels and channel details, safety alarms, calibration, etc.).

The Channel Configuration screen consists of a tabbed panel containing a large grid, much like a spread sheet. The data contained in the grid varies depending on which Tab is selected from the top of the screen. A row in the grid corresponds to a channel in the system; the row number and channel number are the same.

For more information on each channels setting click here.

Editing the Grid

The majority of the fields are drop down menus with options for the use to select. Values will be dependent on the settings relative to type specified. For instance, if a channel type is chosen to be VOLTS, then in the Unit column, the only choice that will be available are ones that match the VOLTAGE channel type defined in Unit Preferences

Channel names are automatically populated using the "CHANNEL #" or "CHANNEL#" structure (there is a preference setting to allow the space) and may be changed manually typed on a per-channel basis. Users must click in the field to edit the values and cannot multi-select fields to delete, copy, or paste values. Once the field is in the edit mode, values can be pasted in from the windows system clipboard. Channel names may not be duplicated for the channel config to be valid. There is a Preference setting to temporarily allow duplicate channel names to exist, but this is only to aid in the editing and renaming process.

A copy and paste function does exist using the right click menu. This allows either a single field value, or an entire row, to be copied and pasted to a specified consecutive channel range (e.g. copy Channel1 Type field value to channels 4-10).

Add Channels

When editing the channel settings on a newly created configuration, the user is prompted to enter the number of channels. The number of channels in the configuration can be changed at any time by clicking on the “number of channels” button (see below).

Removing Channels

From the main tab, right click in a row to bring up the popup menu, then

  • Select “delete channel” to delete a single channel (the channel corresponding to the row selected).
  • Select “delete channels” to delete a contiguous block of channels (see Figure 35 below).

In both cases, the user will be asked to choose if he/she wants to fill the gap occupied by the deleted channels by shifting the following channels up.

Disabling Channels

To keep a channel in the configuration but disable it (which means no data will be recorded, and no real-time monitoring will be available for this channel), click on the channel “Enable” cell, as shown in Figure 36 below:
