Hawekeye: Steady State
The Steady State instrument provides a simple numerical read out of a channel's current value. This is useful for time-specific values (Speed), DC channels (such as a position or angle), or temperature channels.
The image below shows the options available from the right click menu:

- Show channel name and current display units
- Show the data displayed (peak, min, max etc.)
- Value in display units
- Mouse right-click popup menu, to change the data being displayed, the units (including dBs), or switch the raw data (to display the value in mV rather than engineering units)
- Engineering units sub-menu, gives the choice between all the units defined for the channel type.
For the dB display, the 0 dB reference is defined for each channel in the Hawk GUI, Channel Config page, “Display units” tab.
Peak Service Data
The time domain data for the Steady State Instrument is provided from the peak service and scope services via the Hawk.
The peak service provides the following data, computed at 20 updates/second, therefore on 50 milliseconds time blocks:
- Peak data ( (Max-Min) / 2)
- Min
- Max
- RMS
- Average (Full signal average; (Sum of sample amplitude)/(number of samples))
- Instantaneous (value of the last sample in the block)
The peak service data is displayed in the following instruments
- Peak Hold Bar chart: display the peak value in a bar chart representation
- Steady state: digital display of the data of choice (peak, min, max etc.)
- Chart recorder: line plot representing the data of choice against time, for multiple channels.
- Shaft centre line: displays the average data of 2 channels against each other.
