Group Map: Generating a Group Map

To create a group map first launch Aurora Client. Group Map editor is the second blue square icon in Aurora Client, and is used to define the channels that will be include or specifically excluded in the processing. To run multiple manoeuvres under the same processing specifications a user may wish to create a 'Group Map' and 'Proc Spec' so that these settings don't need to be defined each time.

On the right hand side of the screen click "New Group Map." The editor panel will then show an empty group map:

Add Channel Group

  1. Select the “Add Channel Group” button and give it a name. Select the node, then single click on the text area for editing (double clicking will not bring the field into editing mode). The user can add more than one channel group to the Group Map
  2. Add or exclude specific channels to the group via the “Add Sensor Type”, “Include Channel(s)”, and/or “Exclude Channel(s) buttons. The “Add Sensor Type” option is used to identify a group of channels based on actual type of sensor they are (i.e. STRAIN, ACCEL, etc.). These type names are defined in the Hawk GUI’s Configuration page before any data acquisition occurs. More information on these options below.
  3. Once the new group map has been completely defined, click the “Save As…” or “Save Group Map” button and give it a name. The new group map will now be available in the selection tree.
Notes:
  • Items from the Channel Group can be deleted via the right-click menu in the Current Group Map window.
  • Group Map files may contain multiple groups. (e.g. Accelerometers, Pressures, etc.)
  • If there are unsaved changes, the user will be prompted to save them first)
  • Masks are specified using the standard wildcard characters ‘*’ to denote a sequence of characters and ‘?’ to denote a single character. (e.g. Name “R1-1-*”)

Select the node, then click on the text area for editing, and enter a name for the new channel group. (Double Clicking will not enter into text editing prompt)

Include channel

The user can insert individual channels or channel sets into the channel group. Click "Include Channels" -> an additional node under the current channel group will appear:

Select the node, then click on the text area for editing using the following rules.

  • Enter the name of a particular channel to insert it specifically
  • Use any combination of standard wildcard characters ‘ * ’ (= any number of characters)  and ‘ ? ’ (= any single character) to insert all channels where the string of characters in the channel name follows a specific pattern.

Exclude Channels

The user can exclude individual channels or channel sets from a channel group. Click "Exclude Channels" -> an additional node under the current channel group will appear '----'

Select the node, then single click on the text area for editing, and follow the same rules as for including channels into the channel group. (double clicking will not bring the field into editing mode)

Add Sensor Type

If you want to include channels of a specific type, click "Add Sensor Type" -> a new node under the current channel group will appear:

Select the node, then click the text area for editing, and enter the exact name of the desired sensor type. Sensor Types are predefined in the Acquisition software, below is the Channel Config screen in the Hawk GUI, you can see the list of channel types. To add a new channel type refer to   Channel and Unit Types.

Delete item

Any item at any level in the group map can be deleted. First, select the item to delete, then from the right-click menu, select option "Delete". Deleting a channel group deletes all included channels, excluded channels, and gauge types for that channel group.

Load group map

To load an existing Group Map, browse the Group Map tree view (Under "Available Group Maps") and double-click the Group Map of interest -> The Group Map details will appear in the "Current Group Map" section. Edits may now be made.

Save group map

A Group Map can be saved at the highest level in the Group Map structure.

It is also possible to limit the scope of a Group Map by saving it under:

  • a specific Engine
  • or a specific Engine+Test pair
  • or a specific Engine+Test+Configuration set.

This is what edit boxes 1, 2 and 3 in the management and settings panel are for.

Here are 2 examples:

Example 1: Saving the Group Map at root level

  • By default, all fields are set to ‘#All’
  • It is exactly the same as having the fields blank.

Example 2: Saving the Group Map at Test Level

  • Note that both the Engine and the Test fields must be filled in
  • Field Config is set to its default value '#All' or may be blank

Click "Save Group Map" if you would like to:

  • Save a new Group Map
  • Save an existing Group Map with different settings but the same name

Click "Save as" if you would like to:

  • Save a new Group Map.
  • Save an existing Group Map under a different name.

The Group Map will appear at the desired level (root, engine, test or configuration) in the Group Map tree view.

Note: The group map tree view is different from the data tree view on other pages. It is not representative of the data. Its structure is built up based upon restrictions (root level, engine, test or config level) entered manually by the user.

Editing a group map

First load the Group Map, then you can edit the Group Map by performing any addition or removal that you would like. (For help loading a group map refer to the section above)

When ready to save you may "Save as..." to Save the edits made under a different name or "Save Group Map" to overwrite the current one.
