Hawk GUI: Manoeuvres
A manoeuvre is a marker within the data, which is used during post-analysis to pinpoint the data to analyse. There are various ways to take a manoeuvre:
- While writing
- After writing, while reviewing the data
During writing, the user can see the time elapsed since he/she started writing (1); he/she may click on the “Start Manoeuvre” button to start a manoeuvre (2).
During writing, the user can see the time elapsed since he/she started writing (1); he/she may click on the “Start Manoeuvre” button to start a manoeuvre (2).
During the manoeuvre:
- Current manoeuvre duration is displayed below writing elapsed time (1).
- User can edit the current manoeuvre comments (2) and type (3). The manoeuvre type is a drop down list, not a free text box. Predefined manoeuvre types may be added in the “Recording” tab of the Preferences screen (5).
- Manoeuvre ID is shown in - 4.
- Previous manoeuvres taken, with their details, are shown in – 5. Those manoeuvres are no longer editable.
- User may stop the manoeuvre by clicking on the stop manoeuvre button (6), or by starting a new manoeuvre (7).
- It is also possible to edit in advance the details of the next manoeuvre to be taken (8)
To take an Unscheduled Manoeuvre, click the “Unscheduled” button (9). A manoeuvre will be created with start time and end times pre- and post-dating the current acquisition data time. The time offset is configurable in the “Recording” tab of the Preferences screen (below - 1).
To take a Sentry Manoeuvre, click the “Sentry” button (9). A manoeuvre will be created with a start time predating the current acquisition data time and end time equal to the current acquisition data time. The sentry period is configurable in the “Recording” tab of the Preferences screen (below - 1).
To take a Timed Manoeuvre, click the “Timed manoeuvre” button (10). A manoeuvre will be created with a start time equal to current acquisition data time. The manoeuvre will stop by itself after the duration specified below the button, unless the manoeuvre is stopped manually. The default duration proposed to the user is configurable in the “Recording” tab of the Preferences screen (below - 3).

Optionally, the manoeuvre ID
- Will be incremented automatically
- Will go back to 0 when we start scanning
Those are preference settings, as show below:

To create an event, click on the “Insert event” button (11). The user will be asked to provide description text for the event:

Manoeuvre Log
The system keeps a record of the manoeuvres taken, in CSV format. This is optional and configurable in the preferences:

- Tick to activate the feature
- One CSV file maintained for each channel configuration
- One CSV file per scanning
- One CSV file maintained per writing
- Maximum file size. When the file reaches the maximum size allowed, the file is closed and a new file is opened.
- Output folder where the CSV file are generated. Those files are not managed by the HGL system and its Disk Controller; they will not be archived to the Hercules. They are provided to be managed by the user as he/she wishes.
- Tick this option to include the events (user events, channel events) in the CSV file.
